The brief
The Fire Queen is the oldest narrow gauge locomotive in existence. It was built in 1848 and worked in the Dinorwic quarry pulling slate from the quarry to the port at Y Felinheli. The Fire Queen continued to work at the quarry until 1886 when the locomotive was then stored in a small shed at the quarry workshop until 1989 when the engine was moved to another site.
Sabin Consulting Engineers were appointed to undertake MEP design services for the refurbishment of a number of buildings on the Parc Padarn site in Gwynedd (located adjacent to the National Slate Museum). These works include the Engine Shed as part of a project allowing the Fire Queen to return to its original home.
